IIT-JEE Mains & Advanced


The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE), New Delhi introduced the national-level common entrance exam called Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted for admission to various engineering colleges in India. National Testing Agency (NTA) is vested with the authority to conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main examination. The major development in JEE Main is the exam will be held twice a year for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programmes in IITs, NITs, IIIT and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions.

The Joint Entrance Exam will be conducted in two stages – JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE (Main) replaced the AIEEE entrance exam and JEE (Advanced) replaced the IIT-JEE entrance exam. Every year, over 25,000 Engineering and Architecture seats will be filled through the JEE Main score.

JEE Main 2023 Session 1 Dates :

JEE Mains – 2023 Session 2 Dates :

The candidates who have applied and successfully paid the Examination Fee for JEE (Mains) – 2023 Session 1 and want to appear for JEE (Mains) – 2023 Session 2, are required to log in with their previous Application Number and Password as Provided in Session 1. They may only choose the Paper, Medium of the Examination, and cities for Session 2 and pay the Examination Fees.

JEE Main 2023 Eligibility

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria set by the NTA are only eligible to apply online for JEE Mains. There are many eligibility criteria set by NTA.

1. Age Limit: There is no age limit for the candidates to appear for the JEE Main examination. However, candidates should satisfy themselves regarding the age limit while taking admission at a particular institute.

2. Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE): Candidates who have passed class 12 or its equivalent qualifying examination in 2021, 2022, or those who are appearing in Class 12/equivalent examination in 2023, are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2023.

3. Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination: Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in the class 12 qualifying examination in order to apply online for JEE Main 2022. The candidate must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the qualifying examination for B.Arch.

4. Percentage of Marks: Candidates have to secure a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate for admission to pioneer institutes in the country such as IITs, IIITs, NITs and CFTIs. However, it is 65% for reserved categories.

5. B. Arch Eligibility: The paper-II is B.Arch. Candidates who are aiming for admission to this course must have passed 10+2 or its equivalent with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The diploma holders are not eligible to apply.

JEE Main Reservation

The NTA will follow strictly the Govt. of India reservation rules belonging to certain categories and are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. In order to get admission to a particular institute, candidates are advised to check the percentage of reservations.

NCL-OBC     ——   27 %

Scheduled Castes (SC)  —-  15%

Scheduled Tribes (ST)   ——-  7.5%

Persons with Disability (PwD)   —-  5%

JEE Advanced 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The JEE Advanced 2023 eligibility criteria are the conditions that every candidate has to fulfill in order to be eligible for appearing in the exam and admission process. The authorities will release the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2023 online mode along with the brochure. Candidates who are found ineligible will be disqualified from admission. CDAC has re-introduced the 75% class 12th criteria. Applicants looking for admissions in NITs. IITs, IIITs, and GFTIs have to secure a minimum of 75% marks in class 12. JEE Advanced 2023 eligibility criteria have been listed out below:



Age Limit

General category candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1997. A relaxation of 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD category.

Qualifying Examination

A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2022 or 2023 with the subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Candidates who had appeared in Class XII (or equivalent) examination, for the first time in 2021 or earlier, are NOT eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2023

Number of Attempts

For JEE Advanced, the candidates would be able to attempt the examination two times in two consecutive years.

IIT Admissions

The candidates should have never taken admitted to an IIT irrespective of whether they continued the program or not or just accepted the seat by reporting at the center. The candidates who have earlier joined any IIT but had subsequently canceled their admission will also not be termed eligible for JEE Advanced.

JEE Main

The candidates should have qualified for the JEE Main examination and must be in the top 2,50,000 candidates in order of merit. The cutoff for admissions into IITs should also be met by the candidates. Overall 10% of general EWS category candidates will be shortlisted, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all. The category distribution of the top 250000 candidates is given in the table below.
